Clonmel Cycling Club
The Sunday Spin is on the go again. Sunday last saw the the return of the club’s Sunday morning cycle. The morning was bright and fresh with over a dozen cyclists setting off on route to Cahir into a strong westerly wind, where they turned left and headed for Ardfinnan. As there were several new faces on the cycle, Declan (club secretary) decided to stop in Ardfinnan for a brief chat on cycling safety and general dos and don’ts while cycling in a group. Onwards to Goatenbridge chatting and enjoying the fabulous views on offer and ignoring the twinges in the leg muscles, knowing that the pain would be worth it in the end. Left in Goatenbridge, and with the wind to our backs the road felt smooth and inviting as we headed for Newcastle, all feeling like pro’s. Frank remarked of the calming effect that looking down at the road had on him kilometre after kilometre, pleased that he had come along for the cycle.
“It’s the best bug there is,” remarked Declan. “The cycling bug.” And it’s the only bug around that improves your health.
Straight through Newcastle heading back to Clonmel, with the welcome tailwind blowing us all the way. Reaching Kilmanahan, Declan pulled the group over to the road side to inform us all that we were now cycling along a section of the circuit for the 2012 Irish National Cycling Championships, providing us with some very interesting insider knowledge of the sport and route. Back on the saddle and onwards reaching Clonmel after 2.5 hours, slightly longer than anticipated both in time and distance, but on the first spin this is to be expected as we gauge peoples fittness. So for all the new faces, Frank, John, Brian, Pat, Mark and his son Colm, don’t be put off and not return, this week’s Sunday Spin will be easier and shorter. See you all and more, Sunday Morning at Tesco’s car park for 10am.
Bike Fitting evening
Due to the demand in enquiries regarding bike fitting, the club has decided to run a bike fitting evening in Hearns Hotel, Parnell Street, Clonmel at 7pm on Tuesday 6th December. Ask at the hotel reception for directions. So if you have a road bike or a flat barred road bike, please come along and we’ll set it up to suit you and hopefully make your cycling experience more comfortable and enjoyable. Also for anyone using clip on style shoes and pedals, please bring along your shoes. This evening is free of charge and available to ladies, gents and teenagers.
