Tipp businesses urged to think of Hireland

Carrick-on-Suir Sinn Fein councillor Liam Walsh is encouraging local businesses to sign up to a new initiative called Hireland, set up not by Government or lobby groups, but by ordinary people who want to help kick-start Ireland’s jobs growth once again.

“This is an initiative created by ordinary people who decided that the time had come to take action and kick-start jobs growth in Ireland,” said Cllr Walsh.

Hireland came about when a group of friends, devastated to be discussing yet another set of friends facing emigration due to unemployment, decided that the time had come to stop waiting on a solution from Government and take action themselves. It is a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation that has developed a national communications initiative to encourage employers to hire one of the thousands of skilled people who are currently out of work. Up to 2,100 jobs have been pledged on the Hireland website to date.

“The campaign aims to mobilise a spirit of willingness amongst the small business community to help get thousands of skilled workers back into employment in 2012.” Hireland are asking Irish businesses to think differently - and to pledge a short or long term job now.

“I would encourage businesses in Tipperary to take collective action, think differently and join the campaign. This initiative is good for the community at large and can help get our job numbers growing again. Even in a small but meaningful way, this can help get us out of the negative cycle of unemployment and emigration that is devastating families,” said Cllr Walsh.
