Two Tipp housing projects short-listed for awards

Two housing projects located in Tipperary have been selected to go forward to the Allianz Community Housing Awards 2011. The Irish Council for Social Housing (ICSH) announced that a total of 16 houses have been shortlisted for the prestigious awards. Representing Tipperary in the shortlist are housing projects developed by Inis Housing Association in Monard and South Tipperary County Council’s housing development for families in Ballyporeen.

The aim of the Community Housing Awards is to encourage, recognise and reward excellence in the provision of social housing and showcase how innovative design and management can create a positive impact on the lives of tenants and the wider community.

This year over 30 entries were received which are of an exceptionally high standard across eight categories including housing for older people, regeneration, housing for people with disabilities, collaboration initiatives, Traveller projects, family housing, homeless projects and innovative finance solutions. The shortlisted finalists will be judged by an expert panel on which there are representatives from Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland, ICSH, Dublin Institute of Technology and Allianz (sponsors of the awards).

The category winners and overall winner will be announced and presented with their awards at a gala dinner held at the ICSH National Social Housing Conference due to be held in the Galway Bay Hotel, Salthill on September 28.

The ICSH is the National Federation of social housing organisations with over 300 housing associations affiliated nationwide. The Community Housing Awards were first presented in 2003 and have been awarded on a biennial basis since.

Voluntary housing associations currently manage 25,000 homes in every local authority area in the country serving the needs of 500 local communities.
