Total Transformation six shedding the pounds and getting fit

The Total Transformation six have just completed their first week of exercise and fitness consulatations and classes.

Eilish Walsh, Carol Mullins, Heather Botes, Julian Smith, Vanessa Browne and Gearoid Fogarty have embarked on a six-week-long transformation of their lives as part of theTotal Transformation programme, one of the elements of the Style Clonmel Festival 2010 which kicks off this October. The six contestants have week one done and dusted and are progressing very well according to their fitness experts from Curves, figure8 and the Clonmel Park Hotel.

For the next five weeks the six participants will continue to receive personal advice, assistance and guidance in all areas of health, fitness and exercise, helping the four girls and two guys to compleely change the way they are living.

Eilish and Carol are in the professional hands of Dolores Costigan, owner of Curves health and fitness club in Clonmel. She is highly impressed with the enthusiasm and motivation displayed by the two ladies. Both Eilish and Carol have lost inches and reduced body fat in their first week. Carol's first weigh-in showed that she had lost 6lbs and nine inches from her body, as well as 2.7 per cent of her body fat. Eilish has shed 2.6lbs, ten inches from her body and an amazing 3.4 per cent of her body fat. Their personal fitness plans require that they attend Curves three times per week minimum, but they can attend more if they would like. Carol and Eilish are concentrating on the circuit system at Curves which will have them working on the hydraulic machine for 30 seconds each time followed by recovery time for 90 seconds. This will improve their cardiovascular fitness, strength and resistance.

"The more we see of them, the less they will see of themselves," said Dolores.

"I am really pleased with them and both are very motivated, they couldn't wait to start and said that they will try to come in every day." Dolores has also given them a 28-day weight management plan devised by Curves.

Linda Garcia, owner of figure8 fitness centre is working with Heather and Julian and she is also pleased with the progress of her two transformers.

For Linda, knowing about your metabolism is the key to a well-rounded, healthy lifestyle and she has ensured that Heather and Julian's metabolism has been analysed by a dietician. Heather is attending a 7am private weight loss class with Linda two mornings per week and is walking three-times-per week in the evening. Heather's first weigh-in showed that she had shed an impressive 5.6lbs and her fitness level is improving greatly. Linda is very impressed with how well she has been doing.

Julian's start was delayed slightly due to illness, but regardless, his first weigh-in showed that he had lost 3.5lbs. He has been walking and swimming and will eventually be working out two mornings per week. On Saturdays Linda would like to see Heather and Julian working out together at figure8 - to support and interract with each other.

"Total Transformation is a fantastic opportunity for Heather and Julian, it is a real lifestyle change for both of them and some people just need a bit of help to show them that it can be done," said Linda.

At the Clonmel Park Hotel, Vanessa and Gearoid are getting as much exercise as they can. Leisure centre manager, Susan Brannigan said that both Vanessa and Gearoid had their fitness assessments and are settling in well to their new regimes; Vanessa is being mentored by fitness instructor Aine Roche while Gearoid is being guided by fitness instructor Patrick Barrett.

According to Susan, Vanessa is attending the gym three-times-per week and swimming twice per week. She is also keeping a food diary and is trying to cut back on white bread, butter, tea and biscuits.

"She is very enthusiastic it is great, she was in here the very day after we first met, ready to start," said Susan. Vanessa is also supported by daughter and sister - her gymn buddies, which is very important.

Patrick is currently concentrating on weight lifting and cycling with Gearoid, who has had knee surgery in the past and needs to be careful. So while he is doing a lot of work, it is not high impact so there is less risk of injury. He is using machine and free weights as well as body weight exercises like squats and lunges.

Gearoid does shift-work and his days off are not regular so it has been a challenge for him to set aside time but he can commit to three or four days each week, even if they are different days. Patrick will discuss an eating plan with Gearoid this week."I am very happy with Gearoid, he is giving it 110 per cent," said Patrick.
