Gannon’s XL at the Galtee Service Station in Tipperary Town has taken the award for ‘Best Coffee Offering’ at the XL Store of the Year Awards 2011, held last week in Mullingar.

The ‘Best Coffee Offering’ award, sponsored by Bewleys, is judged on a range of criteria including service, pricing, cleanliness, link deals with food items and value. The coffee offering in Gannon’s XL, located on the Limerick Road, is a focal point within the store and offers a range of options to the customer.

Accepting the award, Gerry Gannon said: “We are delighted to have received this award. Being part of the XL awards is good for our store as it drives us to work towards delivering good value and service to our customers. Most importantly, it is recognition for our hard working members of staff.”

Retailers who achieve a Store of the Year Award must comply with a strict set of criteria which involves stores being rigorously assessed by a mystery shopper. This year over 150 stores from across the country took part in the awards programme.

The awards, now in their third year, seek to promote and reward high standards in retailing. The evening reception saw 23 separate category winners with Dunleavy’s XL in Donegal taking the coveted title of XL Store of the Year, 2011.

Operated by independent retailers, there are 189 XL neighbourhood stores in 24 counties across Ireland, providing employment to approximately 2,000 people across the country.
