Barracks Daffodil Day launch for the last time

Kickham Barracks will host the annual launch of Daffodil Day in Clonmel this Saturday, for what will be the very last time, before the barracks is expected to close next month. For the past eight years the Clonmel branch of Daffodil Day have been welcomed into the barracks to kick-start the countdown to the annual Daffodil Day fundraiser which takes place this year on March 23, and which raises significant funds for the Irish Cancer Society. This Saturday’s event will also be very special because it marks the 25th anniversary of Daffodil Day. Agnes O’Donoghue, chairperson of the Clonmel Branch of Daffodil Day said that this Saturday will be a very special occasion.

“Kickham Barracks has been such a successful venue for us and we have always had a very warm welcome there,” she said. She added that they were very grateful to the Defence Forces locally for their hospitality to them over the years.

This Saturday’s launch will feature speeches from Rose O’Dea from the Irish Cancer Society and Mayor Darren Ryan who will officiate. There will be fresh daffodils available, as well as an array of practical and beautiful daffodil-related gifts available at the launch. Such items will also be available to buy in O’Gormans’s Pharmacy on Gladstone Street. All money goes towards the essential services provided by the ICS each year.

Clonmel’s Daffodil Day launch will take place this February 11, 2012 in Kickham Baracks between 10.30am and 12pm. Contact Agnes on 086 8828447 for further information.
