‘Fiver Friday’ fever comes to Clonmel

The RTE Clonmel Local Heroes campaign last week launched its brand new initiative, Fiver Friday, which commences in Clonmel town tomorrow, Friday February 17.

Customers shopping in Clonmel tomorrow can avail of special offers to them, from participating shops, of items that cost just €5 or products and services that have €5 off the original price. It is an excellent shopping initiative that was first piloted in Drogheda, the model Local Heroes town that featured in the RTE series last year, and which is still running with great success.

The initiative requests businesses to give a special offer but also encourages shoppers to support those businesses and perhaps spend an extra €5 in the week. Tara Moriarty, co-ordinator of RTE Clonmel Local Heroes said that more than 30 shops and businesses around the town have signed up to partake in Fiver Friday and those shops will display a poster on the windows, so shoppers will know where to go to avail of the best deals. Some businesses from outside the town centre are also involved so look out for the poster.

“We spoke to the mayor of Drogheda, Cllr Kevin Callan, about the Fiver Friday initiative and he said that footfall definitely increased in their town on Fridays, so we are hopeful that the same will happen in Clonmel,” said Ms Moriarty.

“This is just another part of our ongoing campaign, and more things will follow,” she said. And they have already with the news on Monday evening that the new Clonmel Local Heroes jobs website, www.jobsforclonmel.com, has gone live.

“jobsforclonmel.com is an initiative which intends to present local area jobs to jobseekers in one accessible place, along with advice and tips on preparing CVs and cover letters, and preparing for interviews.

“Local businesses are also welcomed to post vacancies for work experience and mentoring which we feel will encourage people who are unemployed to get back onto the career ladder,” said Ms. Moriarty.

For further information you can contact the RTE Clonmel Local Heroes team through the site www.jobsforclonmel.com or 052-6184444. Have a happy Fiver Firday!
