Tipperary technology company VisionID is to expand its workforce after signing a lucrative deal to provide technology, including anti-counterfeiting barcode security, designed and manufactured by one of the world’s leading providers of vision systems.

The Clonmel-based mobile computing and barcode technology company has already added two engineers to its workforce of 16 following a deal with Cognex who are a global provider of Vision and AutoID technology with a manufacturing plant in Cork.

The company said it is confident that it will buck the recession by increasing its workforce even further by the end of this year.

Under the partnership deal VisionID will become an Automation Solution Provider Partner of Cognex. This means VisionID will now have access to Cognex’s complete ID product set and expertise meaning VisionID will now be able to provide their client base with solutions to improve the quality of their products, eliminate production errors, lower manufacturing costs and exceed consumer expectations. It is expected the new partnership will result in product sales in the region of €250,000 per annum.

The Cognex deal is the latest expansion for VisionID which already has a very close working relationship with other leading technology providers including Motorola, Zebra, Honeywell and Intermec. Established in 2000, VisionID specialises in track and trace systems which are widely used across the manufacturing, retail, healthcare and transport/logistics sectors.

Vision ID’s products include barcode scanners and label printers, fixed position scanners, hand held computers, touchscreen monitors and much more. Its real-time technology is used, tried and trusted by big names such as Odlums, Dairygold, the Mater Hospital, Centocor, Renishaw and Clonmel Healthcare. The latest deal will offer VisionID’s customers and new clients a wider range of products and solutions, VisionID’s MD, Robert Jones said.

“The Cognex product portfolio broadens the range of solutions we can provide to our customers. These products are aimed at the life sciences and food industries, to enable key security requirements such as track and trace and anti-counterfeiting measures.

“Despite the prevailing economic climate, we continue to grow our business. It has been an encouraging year for us and we’ve seen some large growth in the life sciences and retail industries, with impressive new client acquisitions coming on line all the time,” Mr Jones said.

Leigh Jordan, UK and Ireland District Sales Manager with Cognex said: “Our strategic partnership with VisionID is a significant step forward in driving new business applications across Ireland which will benefit from the most advanced industrial vision products available on the market.

“VisionID are leaders in their field and we look forward to working closely with them within both their established and emerging market sectors.”

The indigenous operation has grown over the years to become a leader in mobile computing, Wireless LAN, RFID and barcode printing and scanning solutions, with a particular expertise in integration to ERP systems and managed services and support.
