Junction Festival announces all-star Bulmers Original Artists line-up
Things are really heating up in the Junction Festival camp and if your particular festival penchant revolves around the genre of music, then this year's Bulmers Original Artists line-up is sure to rock your socks off. The Original Artists rock line-up, sponsored by Bulmers and staged at well-known Clonmel music venue O'Keeffe's, has been hailed as one of the best-ever. And rightly so with treasures such as Kila, Cathy Davey, Gavin Glass House Band and the Chicago-fab Hypnotic Brass
Bulmers Original brand manager, Marcus Goodwin, was present at the launch of this rock music revelation. He said that Bulmers was delighted to be supporting the brilliant musical event.
“The festival has a truly eclectic mix of all rock genres to suit all tastes with the very best Irish and international bands coming to Clonmel this July to celebrate the Junction Festival’s tenth anniversary,” siad Mr. Goodwin.
The festival kicks off with a bang this year with the Celtic rock of Kila on Friday July 2, followed on Saturday with the current number one Irish pop sensation, the lovely Cathy Davey. Sunday night of the festival will host Barak Obama’s favourite band, Hypnotic Brass Ensemble, who have captivated festival audiences worldwide.
Playing together for nearly 20 years, Kla are one of Ireland's most innovative and exciting bands. The seven members come from different musical backgrounds but with its roots in traditional Irish, Kla have created their own distinctive style of world music, which has won over audiences around the world through their eight recordings to date and their spectacular live performances.
Choice Music Prize nominee and Meteor Ireland Music Award winner Cathy Davey has just added the moniker ‘Number One Selling Artist’ to her list of career highlights. The Irish singer-songwriter delivered a triple-crown result, with her brand new album The Nameless, debuting in poll position on the Irish Album Charts, the Independent Release Charts and the iTunes Charts on its first week of release this month. Cathy Davey is 'one of Ireland’s finest musicians' according to the Irish Times and she is on the top of her game.
Hypnotic Brass Ensemble (HBE) consists of eight brothers from the south side of Chicago – they stole the show at Electric Picnic last year and are not to be missed. Graced with soul, funk, and spirituality, these guys have played to rapturous receptions worldwide. They come from an extraordinary musical family being suns s of legendary Sun Ra trumpeter Phil Cohran, who has roots running back to Mississippi and Chicago Blues and Jazz in the 1950s. HBE’s music is an interesting combination of all musical genres. With the undeniable drive of hip-hop, the freedom of rock and the melodic thread of R&B, these guys are nothing short of unique. In 1999, they formed and have performed or collaborated with some of today's elite artists from Mos Def to UK superstar Damon Albarn, having performed on the last Gorillaz album. But it is in a live setting this band truly comes alive and their euphoric shows once seen are never forgotten.
A magically musical 10th Anniversary Gala Party, hosted by the Gavin Glass House Band, will introduce some very special guests and favourites from the last ten years of the festival. The unique Dublin-based Republic of Loose return on Thursday July 8 for what promises to be another sweaty, funky night with the band playing possibly one of the best gigs of the last ten years at O’Keeffes at Junction ’08. Friday night sees Mick Flannery make his festival debut to showcase songs from his forthcoming album and classics from his Irish number one album 'White Lies'.
Republic of Loose are purveyors of white funk channeling the stage presence of James Brown and the musical mastery of Michael Jackson. This band turned O’Keeffes red hot with an electric gig at Junction ’08 and O’Keeffes is expected to again heave and boogie to the sound of ‘70s funk.
In the last two years Mick Flannery has gone from part time stonemason to one of Irelands most sought after musicians. Since the release of his critically acclaimed album ‘White Lies’ late in 2008, he has played a string of sold out shows all over Ireland, been nominated for the Choice album awards, been cited as ‘Most Promising Newcomer’ by Hotpress readers and finally won ‘Best Male’ at the Meteor awards this year. Mick will finish a much anticipated Bulmers Original Artists selection at this year’s festival.
Tickets for all the rock shows go on sale this week online on www.junctionfestival.com.
