Chance to get a happy heart the healthy way

The annual Healthy Heart Walk will take place on Wednesday, May 30 2012. The aim of the walk is to raise funds for local charities in parallel to raising awareness amongst the local community of the importance of exercise in contributing towards good cardiac health. This year’s walk is in aid of St. Vincent de Paul in Clonmel.

At the meeting with An Taoiseach Enda Kenny were Ian Talbot, chief executive, Chambers Ireland and Brian Cleary, CEO of Clonmel Chamber and Chambers Ireland board member.

‘Yes’ vote will restore confidence

Clonmel Chamber has called for a Yes vote in the EU Stability Treaty referendum. The call comes following a meeting of the Chambers Ireland network representing companies employing more than 500,000 employees with An Taoiseach, Enda Kenny TD at Government Buildings on Monday last.

‘Treaty will impose austerity, cuts and taxes’

South Tipperary’s independent TD and member of the United Left Alliance, Deputy Seamus Healy is calling for a No vote in the EU Stability Treaty referendum, citing ‘permanent austerity, further cuts and tax rises for decades’ as reasons to reject it.

‘Yes - to restore stability’

South Tipperary’s sitting Government Oireachtas members, Deputy Tom Hayes and Senator Denis Landy locally launched the campaign for a yes vote in the forthcoming EU Stability Treaty referendum which takes place on May 31. South Tipperary council buildings was the venue for the launch which was organised jointly by Deputy Hayes and Senator Landy, with national and local party representatives also in attendance to advocate for passing the treaty.

Clonmel Market celebrates two years’ success for small, local businesses

The Clonmel Market at Dudley’s Mills on the Coleville Road is celebrating its second birthday this week and in that time, has been offering local traders, small businesses and entrepreneurs the perfect platform from which to sell their wares. Everything from handmade goods and crafts, to candles and chocolates, to plants and books and a wide variety of goods in between are on offer here at the weekend market which opens on Saturdays and Sundays from 11am to 4pm.

The annual Glen of Aherlow Walking Festival takes place over the June Bank Holiday weekend, from June 1-4. Organised by the Glen of Aherlow Fáilte Society and the Galtee Walking Club this is one of Ireland’s leading walking festivals.

Council approves funding for cycling events

Two Summer cycling events organised by local cycling enthusiasts, members of Clonmel Cycling Club, received financial support this month from Clonmel Borough Council.

On Saturday, 26th May, former international athlete Catherina McKiernan will deliver a Chirunning workshop to runners and joggers in Clonmel Athletic Club. This workshop is being facilitated by South Tipperary Sports Partnership and Clonmel AC. The aim of the workshop is for runners/joggers to learn how to run efficiently reduce impact on the body and to prevent or clear up running related injuries.

Tickets are now on sale for Tipperary Munster Championship games

Tipperary play Kerry in the Munster SF championship at 2pm and Limerick in the Munster SH championship at 4pm on Sunday May 27 at Semple Stadium. Tickets are now on sale through clubs, online at tickets.ie and ticketmaster.ie and through selected Centra and Super Valu stores. Ticket prices are €30 for covered stand, €25 for uncovered and €15 for terrace. Concessions for OAPs and students will apply on stand tickets only, they will get a €10 refund at specified stiles on the day on production of valid ID. Family tickets (Adult uncovered - €25, juvenile - €5) are available in the Old Stand only and should be ordered through clubs or online. There are also club group discounted ticket schemes – adult groups at end of covered stand cost €25 per person for minimum order of 15 per club, adult groups at end of uncovered stand €20 per person for minimum order of 15 per club and group terrace at €10 per person for minimum order of 20 tickets per club. All club groups should be booked directly with the County Board through the club secretary. These attractive ticket packages are designed by Munster Council to make it affordable for as many people as possible to attend this double header.

Summer fair treats at Camphill’s annual day

The community at Camphill in Grangemockler pulled out all the stops once again this year, welcoming family members, friends, neighbours and many visitors from near and far to their annual Summer fair on what was a beautiful sunny Sunday last. And what a feast of fine fare they were treated to - home bakes, jams and organic juices all produced by the residents in Camphill, as well as the delights of freshly-made waffles, barbecued burgers and sausages on request.

Celebration to mark 50 years of the Patrician Year Cross

A special celebration will take place in June to mark 50 years of the Patrician Year Cross in Kings Yard, at the foothills of the Galtee Mountains in Kilbeheny. A walk to Galtymore from Kings Yard, followed by a barbecue for the returning walkers will take place in aid of two local charities: the South East Mountain Rescue Association (SEMRA) and Bru Columbanus. The Patrician Year Cross was sculpted by the famous Cork sculptor Seamus Murphy and was brought to the top of Galtymore in a Bren gun carrier called the ‘Katie Daly’ by five men, John King, Tom Mullins, Robert West, Jim Blake and Tom McGrath in June 1962.
